The Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (ICMB) at the University Kiel links basic science and clinical research in chronic inflammatory diseases. The institute focuses on the identification and molecular characterization of genes involved in inflammation using systematic genetic, epigenetic and functional genomic approaches and tries to understand the complex pathways in animal models in vivo. Ultimately, in close collaboration with clinical partners, we aim to translate our findings back into patients.
The Rosenstiel group at ICMB aims to resolve functional mechanisms behind chronic inflammatory diseases. It has successfully contributed to an understanding of innate immunity in intestinal epithelial cells and functional consequences of host-microbiota interaction in inflammatory bowel disease. The group is using large scale next generation sequencing (NGS), including single cell transcriptome sequencing, to achieve a deeper understanding of cellular programs and epigenetic disease marks. Recent projects using NGS include the systematic delineation of intestinal gene expression, SNP-dependent genome-wide expression profile and context-dependent regulation of alternative splicing in inflammatory signalling.
