Saarland University currently hosts about 19.000 students and offers degree programs in a broad spectrum of disciplines. Biosciences, informatics, and nanotechnology are key research disciplines, which are shaping the university's profile.

The EpiGenetics group at Saarland University has a research focus on principles, mechanisms and consequences of epigenetic regulation. The group especially concentrates on DNA-methylation and DNA-hydroxymethylation in the context of epigenetic reprogramming and mammalian development, genomic imprinting as well as epigenetic profiling of different celltypes associated with stress or cancer. As part of SP2-1 the EpiGenetics group at Saarland University will analyse genome-wide DNA-methylation patterns in the context of steatosis and T-cell memory as well as chromatin accessibility profiles of all celltypes within DEEP. As the DEEP coordinator Prof. Dr. Jörn Walter is an active member of the management team (SP3-1, SP3-2).
