DEEP into its second year

Annual meeting proves successful

DEEP coordinator Jörn Walter (Saarland University)

From November 18th to 19th, 2014 the second DEEP Annual Meeting was held in Freiburg at the Max-Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE). The project will run from September 2012 to August 2017, making this annual meeting a mid-term one as well. The project’s progress so far was thus a main topic. In the past 2,5 years DEEP has contributed a major part of 70 anticipated epigenomes to the IHEC goal to map 1000 epigenomes until 2020. During this period DEEP has complied to IHEC standards and exclusively used NGS-platforms for data generation (Bisulfite-Seq, ChIP-Seq, DNAseI-Seq, RNA-Seq).

Approximately fifty people attended the event. Roche, Qiagen and Covaris, as sponsors of this year’s meeting, were also present with various booths introducing their products. The breaks between sessions provided a good opportunity for participants to engage in networking and conversation.

Next spring a review by the project’s supporting organization (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and other outside experts is scheduled to take place.
