Max Planck Institute for Informatics

Max Planck Institute for Informatics is one of two institutes of Max Planck Society (with about 80 institutes total) targeted towards Computer Science. The Institute has Departments focussing on Algorithms and Complexity, Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Information Retrieval and Computational Biology.

Thomas Lengauer heads the Department of Computational Biology and Applied Algorithmics at Max Planck Institute for Informatics. He has performed computational biology research since the early 1990s. (Before that he performed research on theoretical informatics and on computer-aided design of integrated circuits.) His fields of research comprise protein bioinformatics, informatics for understanding, diagnosing and curing diseases and computational genomics and epigenomics. In the DEEP Program Lengauer is coordinating the data handling effort. Work on DEEP in the Dapartment comprises software development and validation for analysis of DNA methylation data and integrative approaches covering different types of epigenetic data.
