University of Duisburg-Essen

The UDE is one of the biggest universities in Germany. The Institute of Human Genetics at the University Hospital Essen is engaged in teaching, research and patient care. A major focus of the institute is on DNA methylation in normal and disease states.

The PI has a long standing interest in the role of genetic and epigenetic variation in health and disease. He has made important contributions to the fields of cancer epigenetics and imprinting diseases. In DEEP, he supervises the production and analysis of genome-wide DNA methylation data in Essen and investigates the role of epigenetics in adipocyte hyperplasia and hypertrophy as well as in the formation of adipose tissue macrophages. Here the focus is on DNA and RNA methylation.
